I should just rename these posts as “Running and Fred Again…"
Running
I entered the Canberra Times Fun Run at the last minute because the legends at Writing 4 Resilience were all talking about it and I got some serious FOMO.
I’m glad I did!
I went into the half marathon expecting a time of around 2:15 and really surprised myself when I came in at 1:56:54. Under 2 hours!!! Still brings a smile to my face. It was perfect weather for it, I had my RUN playlist and I felt super great. I’d check my watch to see my pace sitting around 5:30/km and thinking that I’m going too fast, I should be sitting around 6:00/km for this distance but somehow I managed to keep it up. I really smashed through the last KM with a surprising amount of gas left in the tank and a well timed banger with Kelly Clarkson’s Since You’ve Been Gone really giving me that extra push.
Fred Again…
You all know how great I think this artist is and I’m so stoked that I managed to score tickets to his Enmore Theatre show in February. I’ll be heading up with some good friends and absolutely cannot wait!
Covid
Not so much a highlight but definitely something that had a big impact this month. We’ve had our second round of Covid go through the house and it hasn’t been fun. I’m pretty sure I was the first but I never tested, so I can’t be 100% but I felt pretty bad for a couple of days and still feel pretty fatigued almost 2 weeks later. Till got knocked out HARD this time, in bed for the good part of a week. I’m shocked at how much worse this second round has been; the first time was pretty mild and remember thinking that it wasn’t the scary beast people were making it out to be. This time, I can totally appreciate how fierce it can be and it’s definitely not to be taken lightly.
The World Cup
Loving watching the World Cup with the fam, all the kids have football fever, it’s great!
Two major highlights for me so far:
This goal from Brazil’s Richarlison against Serbia. Amazing.
It would be criminal not to mention Mitchell Duke’s goal against Tunisia. Add to that the beautiful moment between him and his son ♥️
I always enjoy reading about tech in sports. This article on the tech inside the match balls is crazy cool.
All tournament long, match balls will contain a sensor that collects spatial positioning data in real time — the first World Cup to employ such a ball-tracking mechanism. This, combined with existing optical tracking tools, will make VAR (video assistant referees) and programs like offside reviews more accurate and streamlined than they’ve ever been. Combining these two forms of tracking has long been a holy grail of sorts in technology circles, and FIFA’s use of the ball sensor in particular will serve as a highly public test case over the next four weeks.
One More Thing
And finally, this Twitter thread that illustrates just how short different periods are in your life. A nice reminder to try and live in the moment.
And that’s it! It’s been a busy month, I’m well and truly exhausted and cannot wait for the Christmas break!
SINCE YOU’VE BEEN GOOOOOOOOOOONE!!!
Great graph thread! My youngest starts kindy next year, so my average time with my kids is going to start dropping. Gotta cherish each moment.
