LONG LIVE FRED
If you've been following this blog, you know about my obsession with Fred Again. For the uninitiated, Fred Gibson, known professionally as Fred Again.., is an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer who's taken the electronic music world by storm. His popularity has skyrocketed over the past year, cementing his place in the current musical zeitgeist. Anything he does is greeted with frenzy, and for good reason.
Fred's dropping a new album on September 6th titled "Ten Days," and as a teaser, he's released a live set from Arun's rooftop. Now, you might be wondering, "Who's Arun, and how did he score a Fred Again rooftop gig?" I'm right there with you! What a special experience it must have been. (Note to self: Figure out how to get Fred to perform live from my backyard.)
Some of the new tunes in this set are sounding really great, and I've been rinsing this set since it was released a few weeks back. Do yourself a favor and check it out. And yes, in case you're wondering, the Fred Again obsession is still going strong!
I’M DJING AGAIN
Speaking of great music, I've got some exciting news of my own. In about three weeks, I'll be DJing at The Times Festival. The lineup is a who's who from around 2004-2008, essentially a nostalgia trip for anyone who frequented Academy during that era. We're talking Sneaky Sound System, Bag Raiders, The Potbelleez, Tonite Only, Kid Kenobi, and a bunch of others.
It's pretty funny that I've been invited to play at a music festival. I was convinced years ago that I was "too old" for that kind of thing. It'll be interesting to see who turns up. Will it be familiar faces from back in the day, or do today's club kids still know and appreciate these acts?
As I prep for the gig, I've been diving into my old music collection. I'm thinking of going for a Bang Gang, Modular Records vibe - think blog house, indie electro, and pure party energy. I've been creating a playlist on the tip for my runs lately, and let me tell you, it really gets me moving. Just this morning, Riot in Belgium's Nu Rave classic "La Musique" came on towards the end of my run, and I picked up the pace like nobody's business. BANGER.
WORLD’S COLLIDE
Speaking of running, I've been hitting the pavement a lot lately. I’ve rediscovered the joy in running and I'm in training mode for two big events in November: The Canberra Times Half Marathon and the Kosciuszko Ultra Trail 50k. These throwback tunes are proving to be the perfect soundtrack for my training sessions, bridging young Milkbar with my current love for running with the family doggo.
It's funny how things come full circle. Here I am, prepping for a DJ set that celebrates the music of my younger, wilder years, while also training for running events I never would have imagined tackling back then. Two of the most unlikely worlds colliding, and I'm loving it.
To give you an idea of my training journey, here are some recent highlights from my runs.

These snapshots capture the vibe of my training - the early mornings, the scenic routes, and of course, my best mate, Bob.
Until next time!
How awesome Nick!
Those artists sure are a blast from the past!
Experiencing 2 loves at once = winning!
